Close vs. Cold Email Agency
September 29, 2026 · 5 min read
Close CRM runs $19-$149/user/month with a built-in dialer, but no list sourcing or deliverability infra. See what a cold email agency adds in 2026.
The outbound math
Close CRM costs $19 to $149 per user per month depending on tier, and it includes a built-in power dialer and email sequencing that beat running outbound from a spreadsheet. It does not source lead lists, write cold email copy, warm up sending domains, or manage deliverability. Those are a managed cold email agency's job, not a CRM's.
Quick Answer
What Close actually is: A sales CRM with built-in email sequencing and a power dialer, priced $19-$149 per user/month, per Close's pricing page.
What Close does not do: Source lead lists, write copy, warm up domains, or manage deliverability infrastructure.
Best fit for Close alone: Small sales teams that already have a list and reps to work it.
Better fit for a managed agency: Teams with no in-house list, copywriting, or deliverability capacity.
How much does Close CRM cost in 2026?
Close runs four tiers, priced per user per month, cheaper on annual billing. Solo starts at $19/mo ($9/mo annual) for one user. Scale, the top tier, runs $149/mo ($139/mo annual) with a predictive dialer and unlimited call recording, per Close's pricing page as of August 2026.
| Plan | Monthly (per user) | Annual (per user/mo) | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | $19 | $9 | 1 user, 10k lead cap, no workflows |
| Essentials | $49 | $35 | Unlimited leads, team collaboration, no workflows |
| Growth | $109 | $99 | Workflows, power dialer, 10 connected inboxes |
| Scale | $149 | $139 | Predictive dialer, live call coaching, unlimited recording retention |
A 3-rep team on Growth annual runs about $297/month before add-ons. Premium phone numbers are $19/mo per line on top, and AI call transcription (Call Assistant) is another $50/mo plus $0.02/minute, per Close's pricing page.
Is Close built for cold email or for CRM?
Close is a CRM first. Cold email is a feature bolted onto a pipeline-and-dialer product, not the reason the product exists. That's a different category than a dedicated cold email sending platform, and it matters more than it sounds like it does.
Tools built specifically for cold sending live or die on inbox rotation, warmup, and bounce handling at scale. Close's sequencing exists to support a sales rep's daily workflow inside a deal pipeline, not to run thousands of first-touch emails across dozens of rotating domains. If your outbound volume is small and attached to active deals, that's fine. If you're trying to run volume cold outreach, you're using a CRM's email feature to do a sending platform's job. Our guide to picking a cold email sending platform covers what that job actually requires.
What does Close's power dialer and sequencing actually include?
Close's dialer is the real differentiator against most CRMs. Growth tier and up include a power dialer; Scale adds a predictive dialer plus live call coaching and role-based permissions, per Close's pricing page. Sequencing lets you chain email, call, and SMS steps to a lead inside the CRM, with unlimited leads from Essentials onward.
What's missing from all four tiers: no lead sourcing, no contact database, no email deliverability tooling beyond basic sending limits (Growth/Scale only), and no copywriting help beyond Chloe, its AI assistant. You bring your own list and your own copy. Close organizes and dials it.
What does Close NOT do that a cold email agency handles?
Close has zero built-in list sourcing, zero domain warmup, and zero deliverability monitoring. None of the four tiers mention included contact data or lead sourcing anywhere in the pricing page. A managed cold email agency exists specifically to fill that gap: it sources the list, writes and tests the copy, buys and warms the sending domains, manages inbox rotation and spam placement, and triages replies before they hit your calendar.
Most teams that buy Close expecting it to replace an agency end up doing manual list-building in Apollo or LinkedIn Sales Navigator, writing their own copy, and learning deliverability the hard way after their domain lands in spam. Our domain warmup guide covers what that actually takes if you go the DIY route.
When does Close make more sense than hiring an agency, and when doesn't it?
Close is the right call when you already have a rep, a working list, warmed domains, and copy that converts, and you just need somewhere to organize the pipeline and dial faster. It's the wrong call when you're starting from zero on sourcing, copy, and infrastructure and hoping a CRM subscription will produce meetings on its own. It won't. It was never built to.
Modern Inbound has booked 3,000+ qualified B2B meetings for clients who chose to outsource sourcing, copy, and deliverability instead of building it in-house around a CRM. Our agency vs. in-house SDR breakdown walks through the cost math on both paths.
Is Close CRM good for cold email outreach?
Close is good for organizing and dialing outreach once you already have a list and copy. It is not built to source prospects, write copy, or manage deliverability, so on its own it handles maybe half of what a cold email motion actually needs.
Does Close include lead lists or contact data?
No. None of Close's four pricing tiers, Solo through Scale, include contact data, lead sourcing, or a prospect database. You import or connect your own leads; Close stores and works them.
How much does Close cost for a 3-person sales team?
On the Growth plan at $99/user/month annual, three seats run about $297/month, before add-ons like premium phone numbers ($19/mo per line) or AI call transcription ($50/mo plus usage), per Close's pricing page.
Should I use Close or hire a cold email agency?
Use Close if you have the list, copy, and deliverability infrastructure already handled and just need a CRM to run reps through it. Hire a managed agency if you're missing any of those three pieces, since Close doesn't provide them at any tier.
