Lavender vs Cold Email Agency (2026)

October 7, 2026 · 5 min read

Lavender email coaching starts at $27/mo but doesn't source leads, warm domains, or book meetings. See real 2026 pricing and when an agency wins.

Lavender is a $27 to $99 a month Chrome extension that scores and rewrites emails a rep is already sending. A cold email agency is a full execution team that builds the list, warms the domains, writes the sequences, and hands back booked meetings. Pick Lavender if you already have reps sending volume. Pick an agency if you don't have the list, the infrastructure, or the time to run either.

Quick Answer

Free trial: Lavender's free plan analyzes and personalizes 5 emails a month, per Lavender's pricing page.

Most common paid tier: Individual Pro at $45/month billed annually ($49 month to month).

Team plan: $89/seat/month annually ($99 month to month), built for managers coaching reps who already send.

What it never does: build your list, warm your domains, or send a single email on its own.

What Lavender actually does

Lavender is a copy-coaching layer that sits on top of a rep's own outbound. The Chrome extension scores a draft against patterns pulled from billions of emails, then suggests rewrites for tone, length, and personalization before you hit send.

Two products live under the Lavender brand now. Email Coach is the original Gmail and Outlook extension: it grades emails in real time, flags jargon, checks mobile formatting, and gives a rep a live score before sending. Ora is the newer add-on, an AI agent that drafts full emails by mimicking a team's top performers, pulling from a CRM or a CSV list a rep already has.

Neither product decides who to email. Both assume a human, or an agent acting like one, is already sitting on a list of contacts and a mailbox ready to send.

What Lavender costs in 2026

Lavender Email Coach runs free for light use, then scales from $27 to $99 a month per seat depending on plan and billing term, per Lavender's pricing page. Ora, the AI drafting agent, is priced separately at $500 per agent per month at launch, per Lavender's Ora pricing page.

Ora$500/agent/monthPer agentUp to 1,000 emails/month per agent, drafted from CRM or CSV data

A cold email agency, by comparison, is priced as a retainer or a charge per booked meeting, not a per-seat software fee. You're paying for a full pipeline of booked calls, not for a tool a rep still has to operate.

What Lavender doesn't do

Lavender coaches the email you already wrote. It has no answer for the three problems that kill most cold email programs before copy ever matters: who to email, whether the domain sending it will land in an inbox, and what happens after someone replies.

  • No list building. Lavender doesn't source contacts, verify emails, or build an ICP list. See our list building guide for what that actually takes.
  • No sending infrastructure. There's no domain purchasing, no inbox warmup, no deliverability monitoring. That's a separate discipline, covered in our domain warmup guide.
  • No reply triage. A well-scored email that gets a reply still needs a human, or a team, to qualify it, book the call, and keep the thread moving.
  • No sender required, no sender provided. Lavender assumes a rep, an SDR, or an agent is already set up to send. If that person doesn't exist yet, the tool has nothing to coach.

When to pick Lavender vs a cold email agency

Pick Lavender if you already have reps sending real volume and your bottleneck is copy quality, not pipeline. A $45 to $99 seat fee is cheap insurance against a rep who writes emails that sound like a template.

Pick a cold email agency if the list doesn't exist yet, the domains aren't warmed, or nobody on your team has the hours to run a sending motion end to end. Coaching tools don't fix an empty pipeline. Our own guide to picking a cold email agency covers what to check before signing a retainer.

The two aren't really competitors. A team running its own SDRs can use Lavender to sharpen what those SDRs send. A team with no SDRs, no list, and no domains needs the execution layer first. Modern Inbound has delivered 6,000+ warm leads running that execution layer for clients who didn't want to build it in-house.

FAQ

Is Lavender a replacement for a cold email agency?

No. Lavender scores and rewrites emails a person is already sending. It doesn't build lists, warm domains, or manage sending infrastructure, which is the work a cold email agency actually does.

How much does Lavender cost per month in 2026?

Lavender Email Coach runs from free (5 emails/month) up to $99/month per seat on the Team plan, per Lavender's pricing page. Ora, its AI drafting agent, costs $500 per agent per month at launch.

Does Lavender include lead lists or contact data?

No. Lavender's Ora agent can draft from a CRM or CSV a team already owns, but Lavender doesn't source, find, or verify contacts itself.

Can a small team use Lavender instead of hiring an agency?

Yes, if that team already has a rep sending emails and just needs sharper copy. If there's no list, no domains, and no one dedicated to sending, an agency's execution layer solves a different problem than Lavender does.

If your bottleneck is an empty pipeline rather than clumsy copy, Modern Inbound builds and runs the whole outbound motion: list, domains, copy, and sending. See how the setup works or get in touch to talk through your situation.
